Welcome
First of all, thank you for visiting my website. It can be unlikely nowadays for a small site like mine to be discovered amongst the plethora of more interesting and, let’s face it, better done pages out there.
Welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay.
My goal is to provide content covering DIY projects like woodworking and blacksmithing as well as write posts about Health & Fitness and Self Improvement. Self improvement is the driving force behind everything I do.
Biography
Now, if you’ve read a professional biography before, you know how they are supposed to start.
“First-name Last-name is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for ultimate bestness, CEO of all things cool, and founder of all things blue. First-name has gone on to….”
Well, that’s not my style Besides, I’m still trying to figure out passive voice from active, so speaking in third person is definitely out of the question. And, after spending more or less the last 20 years in the military, I’m tired of formality and comparing everyone’s ‘fruit salad.’
Fruit Salad: Military slang for a ribbon rack worn on dress uniforms.
Here, I’ll try it and you’ll realize that it just doesn’t work.
“Garon Power is a veteran of the United States Army. He is an aspiring author and currently blogging and managing a YouTube channel in his name. Constantly driven to learn and experiment, he started all of “this” due to his continuing quest of personal exploration. “
Anyway, this is my website, so I get to write what I want to. 😉
Background
Since leaving active duty I have come to really appreciate a lot of things. Foremost being that there is a new and somewhat unknown world before me and I feel free to explore it.
There’s not much to tell really, but if you would like to see a little of my background keep reading.
Like a typical young man in his twenties, after high school I went to college. I majored in mechanical engineering and was thoroughly distracted by beautiful women and fast cars.
I was disillusioned with school and dreamed of serving my country. So in 1998, without telling a soul, I quit college and enlisted. Two weeks prior to leaving for basic training I told my parents.
My mother was disappointed and feared for my well being. My father was proud of me.
I went on to learn French and assumed the role of a French linguist. A language I still enjoy studying to this day and which has been in fact the most difficult language I have ever learned. I still struggle to find real fluency.
In 2005 I seized on the opportunity to learn Mandarin Chinese and fell in love with the depth, complexity, and history of the Chinese language and culture. Not long after, my studies in Chinese led to a bachelor’s degree.
Fast Forward to today
I have dual and competing interests in fields both technical and artistic. My studies never cease.
Currently, I’m employed working as a computer programmer (technical) while at the same time learning how to write, film, and take photos (artistic).
I took a fantastic for-veterans code academy that which I wrote a raving review about here.
On the other side of the coin I’m learning to write by gobbling up Master Classes like there’s no tomorrow. YouTube fills in the gaps for both. To read my literary works check out End In Site, a blog I created that focuses on writing.
I used to call myself a perfectionist. That turned into one who strives for perfection. Now, I’ve come to the conclusion that I really shouldn’t even say that word. Perfection. It doesn’t fit. I’m learning. I am a learner. Once I came to this realization, I was able to relax and not worry about the small stuff.
My passions include writing, thinking, and understanding. And I express these passions by exercising this website and showcasing projects on YouTube.
Everything I do comes from a place of enjoyment and fascination. Feel free to tag along. It’s amazing what even a little support can do to brighten someone’s day.
