Has everything really been (said, done, invented…)?

Light Bulb sketch on yellow sticky note

Everything has already been done. Everything has already been said.

As of writing this, a Google search on “Oranges,” yielded about 18,520,000,000 results in less than one second.

A search on “blogging,” came back with 135,000,000 results in less than a second. There were drastically fewer results, but still, 135 million results in 0.60 seconds is a lot

After trying various other search terms to trump the number of results “Oranges” got, only searching “Google” came close.  The number varied from search to search, but Google and Oranges searches returned a lot of results, both tieing at around 18 billion.

So what? Who cares? What’s your point?

The point is there is a ton of information out there. The point is, the world has never existed in such a connected way that with a smartphone and less than a second of time, you have access to 18 billion sources on oranges.

The point is in all likelihood, everything has already been done before. Everything has already been said before. An original idea is like seeing a unicorn.

Right?

None of this matters. Do you know why?

Here are two reasons.

1 – Personal Experience

  • You haven’t done it before
  • You haven’t said it before
  • You haven’t written it before

Just because someone else has said it (discovered it, invented it, done it), doesn’t mean you can’t too. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t too.

Life is meant to be lived. It’s meant to be experienced personally.

2 – Problems

If everything has been said, and done, and invented and whatever, then answer this question.

Have all the problems in the world been solved?

No?

If there are problems (small, big, huge), then there are future solutions. If there are problems, then the world needs those who say and do and try and invent (and fail) to one day solve the problem. To one day provide a new solution.

It’s okay to recycle

In the end, so what if we might be regurgitating old ideas. So what if it’s true that it’s all been done before. In today’s day and age we’re supposed to recycle anyway.

We can (and should) reuse the knowledge of the past to solve the problems of today.

However, what will make the difference, what will finally solve the problem, will be new and unique and have never been seen before.

It will be you!
