In the summer of 2019, I helped my neighbor replace an old deck. In return, I got the old lumber and used it to make this three-bay compost bin.
This was a fun project and plays into my desire to be self sufficient and of course feeding a vegetable garden home-made compost!
I wrote about the construction of the compost bin last year which you can read by following this link here, and I posted several videos regarding the process.
The bin is made from old deck boards and the brackets and hinges were forged at the anvil.
Shortly after constructing the bin, I broke my ankle, and all of my projects came to a screeching halt! Finally, in January of 2020, I finished the hinges and the lids for the compost bin.
Watch the process below. From cutting and assembling the wood to hand forging the hinges, it’s all there.
