Should a blogger post every day?
It’s a straight forward question, and everyone has the solution.
The answer is yes. No, just wait for a second, the answer is no!
Actually, the answer is… it depends.
It depends on why
Why do you write? What motivates you? What are your goals? What does the blog represent? What is the desired endstate of the blog?
If the naysayers were here they would tell you to absolutely not post every day for any number of reasons
- Maybe you’re not any good at writing.
- Perhaps you will burn out your subscriber base.
- You should hold back and only post at regular intervals with the best content possible.
- Who do you think you are, Seth Godin?
This is sound advice and it benefits all parties, right? It is good for the blogger and the reader, but at what expense? Again, what are your motivations?
Why I post every day
For those whose primary goal is to become better at writing then the answer is yes. Your focus must be on the future. A future where you are an accomplished writer, author, and blogger.
To take hold of that future you must write.
Write every day. Write in your journal. Post on your blog. Write short stories. Whatever you do, write. And yes, post some of it every day so we can see, so you can see, and so you can get better.
Keep writing. It will take as long as it takes, but over time you will get better. Stop worrying about comments and likes. Stop paying attention to Google analytics and by all means, stop guessing about what other people may say or think.
This isn’t the end, it’s just the beginning. The best way to get better at anything is through doing the sets and reps. You can’t cheat the system, but you can use it.
Put in the time and effort now, and down the road, when you do have a subscriber base, they will have subscribed for the right reasons. Either way, you’ll be a better writer.
