Six Months Old: Website & BLOG Update

This has been an anticipated BLOG post and I am happy to announce that garonpower.com has been online for six months. Both the website and I have grown quite a bit and much has changed since October 2018.

In the beginning

I started garonpower.com to document my journey of learning and self-discovery. I was transitioning from active duty military life to what I suppose most people would call a normal life.  But, it wasn’t normal for me.

At first, I thought I had everything figured out. I decided that I needed/wanted to go back to school for a second bachelors degree. I soon discovered that the professors were only motivated to teach their lessons, their slides, and their subjects as opposed to teaching me, the student.

As is in my nature, I started to think about learning and the college system (for-profit business) in the United States and that led me down the path which I am currently on. A path of free-learning. The web is better than a library card when you are 14 years old.

A new world opened up to me and I visited new places and learned new ideas by reading BLOG posts and watching YouTube videos. I got to know others through their creative expressions.

So, to figure things out, to learn about me, I created this website and started posting YouTube videos.

A Big Thank You

While starting this website was originally for personal reasons, it didn’t take long for me to appreciate you, the reader. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post.

Everything I do and write about comes from a place of enjoyment and getting support from you makes the process that much sweeter.

In January I wrote a New Year’s Resolution post analyzing my first few months in 2018. At the time I had three subscribers. Three wonderful people who were kind enough to give me the time of day.

That number has grown since that week in January to now over 30 in the last three months. I am grateful and I hope to always remain humble and maybe a little bit in awe that there are other people who might want to read what I have to say.

Website & YouTube Metrics

How many posts have I written? How many YouTube videos have I filmed? How much money have I made?

You know what, after six months of enjoying this process, numbers have taken a backseat.  I have goals and desires, but it is not about the numbers it is about doing. The journey is as enjoyable as the destination.

When I first started with zero posts and an empty website, I was driven to get something on paper. I searched everywhere for every piece of information I could find on creating a successful blog and making successful YouTube videos. Most of the information was very helpful and it did its job in the sense that it inspired me to work and not give up.

The premise of my endeavors though has always been selfish in nature.  I started this process for me. I wanted to better understand myself, to learn, and ultimately to find an inspiring way forward into my future. In that light, I am very happy with my progress.

My Thoughts on Goals

Goals have always been important to me and they have had their place here, though a few of the goals that I set for 2019 have fallen flat. While earlier, I wrote that “numbers” have taken a back seat, I still find it important to have a plan and work toward the desired endstate.

Recently, nearly all of my time has gone to learn to code in Java and with my mind so fully immersed into learning a new language my projects and in turn, my goals have taken a back seat.

In addition to Java, I have also been taking a writing class. Learning and understanding how to write is a post unto itself. I never realized how much goes into writing a book, let alone a short story.

My point in both cases is that I have loaded too much onto my plate and my life has been overly complicated. Multitasking is not for me. I am a singular-focused individual.

A goal is nothing without a system or a plan or an environment to accomplish it. And neither a system nor a plan nor an environment will help accomplish said goal without time. Going forward, I hope to improve my time-management.

Summary

I created this website and my YouTube channel as part of a quest for personal exploration and have thoroughly enjoyed the process.  The journey has been as much fun as the destination.

I am really excited about the warmer weather and can’t wait to start a new project!

Thank you for reading!
